Lak’ar’s host died, injured in the battle; they had no new host. Malek had lost his human mate and his Tok’
Ra mate’s future was uncertain. She floated in the tank. He stood, watching, touching the glass of the
tank. Desolate.
He mourned Starana. Losing Lak’ar as well, would be a severe blow. They had been mated for several
Centuries.
He watched her as she curled next to his hand as it pressed the glass. She mourned and worried. What if
her new host was male? He sighed. At least she would still be alive.
He mourned with …and for, Lak’ar.
